ActivitiesThere's Never a Dull Moment in ButteAlmost from the word go, Butte has been a place where people have come to find first-class amenities in culture and entertainment. As a magnet for the wealthy, Butte boasted the finest in furniture, clothing and art styles. Top entertainers such as Mark Twain, Sally Rand, Sarah Bernhardt, and Fred and Adele Astaire graced the stages of our music halls and theatres. Columbia Gardens delighted families with the country's largest roller coaster, carousels, airplane swings, and amusements such as horse racing. Much of what made Butte a pearl of culture during the 1900s remains vibrant today in the 21st century. Entertainers such as Garrison Keillor and George Winston, as well as touring Broadway productions are favorites at the historic Mother Lode Theatre. Browsing around the Butte National Historic Landmark District reveals antique furniture, toys and tools; as well as art from some of the West's best artists. Butte festivals and events reflect the broad span of our cultural backgrounds. Resources from nearly 4 million acres of state and federal lands attracted a wide variety of people to Butte in the past - it's the same today except now they are coming for the wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities available in the area. |
Barbara's Calendar Highlights
Barbara Fink loves Butte Events almost as much as she loves being a professional clown. Farmers' Market is an absolutely great time Uptown every Saturday morning all summer. An Ri Ra, the annual Montana Irish Festival, has an incredibly high caliber of Irish music and dancers. It's a family event that goes on day and night. My hat's off to the people who put that on. No place in the country has anything like our Freedom Festival. Having the fireworks on the 3rd of July and then to come back the next day with the parade. Butte's Fourth of July parade is the best small town celebration you will ever find. Evel Knievel Days is a well put together event. The Christmas Stroll here surpasses any others I've heard about. The Ice Sculpting Contest had over 50 entries last year. St. Patrick's Day is nearly a week of events. When Butte has an offering it's huge with something for everybody. And most of the events are Uptown, the jewel of Butte. |
