Charles Clark Chateau Mansion

The 1898 mansion was built for Charles Clark and his wife Katherine as a wedding gift from William Clark, the Copper King. Featured is furniture from the University of Montana collection, and numerous turn of the century furnishings, textiles, and historic artifacts. The museum also displays an extensive collection of paintings by Elizabeth Locherie, contemporary works from regional artists, and a changing Butte History exhibit from the Butte Silver Bow Archives.

Dumas Brothel Museum

The Dumas, built as a brothel in 1890, was open as a house of prostitution continuously until 1982, making it the longest running freestanding enterprise of its kind in the United States. The Dumas is the only preserved building in what was once Butte’s thriving red light district. Saved from demolition by Butte native Rudy Gieck who bought the building and began its restoration in 1990. The Dumas is open as a museum featuring an old-time photography studio and tours.

Mai Wah Museum

The Mai Wah Museum preserves and interprets the history and culture of the Asian peoples in Butte, as well as other mining areas of the Rocky Mountain west. A special feature is the museum’s permanent exhibit detailing Asian history in Butte. The Mai Wah Society is also rehabilitating and restoring the Mai Wah Noodle Parlor and Wah Chong Tai Co. buildings.

Montana Tech Mineral Museum

Rock hounds of all ages will marvel at the rare crystal and rock formations displayed here. This is one of the finest collections in the world, with many pieces pulled from beneath Butte itself.

Piccadilly Museum of Transportation

This museum takes you back in time with a fascinating array of antique transportation artifacts and memorabilia gathered from around the world. Offered are extensive exhibits of U.S. and international highway and subway markers, advertising art, license plates, and assorted petroliana, vintage cars and a replica of a rural “filling station.”

World Museum of Mining

Explore more than 50 structures, ranging from the 100-foot headframe of the Orphan Girl Mine, to a faithful recreation of a mining camp, Hell Roarin’ Gulch. Half the museum’s displays focus on the culture and ethnic history of an 1880′s to 1920′s mining town, while the other half provides a detailed look at the history of mining technology. The museum is one of the very few to occupy an actual historic mine site, and is uniquely able to portray the story of mining from earliest methods to modern techniques. Venture 65 feet into the 2700 foot Orphan Girl Mine with one of our tour guides, to get a real feeling for what underground mining was all about.
