“Dare to roll with the unexpected!” … Roll with us in our “tricked out” transports on an “Urban Safari” tour of Butt, MT. Learn about Butte’s past, present, and future, along with the unexpected tidbit. We go where others can’t and tell you what other won’t! Trust in B.U.S.T.

Tours depart daily at: 10am, 12:30pm, & 3pm from 1 North Montana Street, the “Uptown Works” shop. Space is limited. Prices: $35/person/60 minutes $50/person/90 minutes. Alternative tour times available by appointment. For reservations call: (406) 723-3959 Pick up and drop off available.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Bureau of Land Management and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks provide camping and picnicking opportunities in a variety of settings including lakes, rivers, and forest landscapes. Some areas such as Sheepshead Recreation Area can be reserved for events such as weddings, reunions, or picnics. The Forest Service has cabins and campgrounds nestled in the forest or along lakes and rivers that can be reserved online at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777.

Geologic Features

The area’s geologic features provide interest and excitement for all ages. The ‘Ringing Rocks’ east of Butte chime when tapped lightly with a hammer. Crystal Park near Wise River is a favorite for families digging for crystals. For the adventuresome, the Humbug Spires south of Butte and the Pipestone area east of Butte provide rock climbing opportunities. Tours of Lewis & Clark Caverns are available within a short drive from Butte.

Hunting/Fishing

Throughout the year hunters take to the field for a variety of hunting opportunities. The fall provides hunting for big game species as well as spectacular fall colors. Butte is surrounded by blue-ribbon trout fishing opportunities within an hour’s drive that include the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Jefferson rivers. In addition, there is an abundance of large and small lakes and streams that offer great fishing. There are many public fishing access sites managed by the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Bureau of Land Management and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.

The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and Bureau of Land Management offer a variety of motorized and non-motorized trail opportunities. Whether you want to hike, ride horseback, or mountain bike there are great trails minutes from Butte including the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, Humbug Spires, and other nationally designated recreation and historic trails. The Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, located west of Butte, provides primitive hiking and horseback riding opportunities to high mountain lakes and peaks.

Butte offers a wide variety of urban trails that include the BA& P Railroad, Schotte-Ulrich, and Poore-Wilde trails. These paved trails provide an opportunity to glimpse into Butte’s past or stroll along Blacktail Creek. For a connection to backcountry trails on National Forest land, try Maud S Canyon or Thompson Park trails.
